Peterborough Public Health to Move COVID-19 Immunization Services

Written by Comms Team, March 3, 2023

Vaccinations Available at Peterborough Square Until March 17

Peterborough Public Health will be transitioning the COVID-19 immunization clinic located at Peterborough Square to Peterborough Public Health’s home office building at Jackson Square, 185 King Street.

Beginning early April, community members can book COVID-19 vaccination appointments at the Peterborough Public Health Immunization Clinic at 185 King Street. Walk-ins will not be accepted and more details will be provided in the upcoming weeks.

Residents seeking COVID-19 vaccination prior to April 3 can visit a participating pharmacy or a GO-VAXX mobile clinic.  Pharmacy locations can be found on the provincial webpage at https://covid-19.ontario.ca/vaccine-locations and GO-VAXX clinics can be found at www.ontario.ca/page/go-vaxx-and-mobile-indoor-covid-19-vaccine-clinics.

In January 2021, Peterborough Public Health launched a community-wide vaccination campaign against COVID-19, which became the largest mass vaccination effort in the organization’s history. As of February 2023, over 409,00 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the Peterborough region. These vaccines have been administered at hospital clinics, pharmacies and primary clinics, and at the Peterborough Public Health mass vaccination clinic and other pop-up clinic sites. This total also includes over 39,000 booster doses given in the last 6 months.

“This vaccination campaign has truly been a community effort. It would not have been possible without the dedication of hundreds of individuals, as well as the unwavering commitment of numerous partners, including the City of Peterborough when we operated out of the Healthy Planet Arena and most recently Peterborough Square” stated Dr. Thomas Piggott, Medical Officer of Health. “As we move the continued vaccination effort back to our home building and various outreach locations throughout the region, we are also immensely thankful for the thousands of community members who championed public health by rolling up their sleeves to receive a vaccine. As a result of these efforts, hundreds of lives were saved.”

Staff and volunteers adapted clinic operations many times to meet community demand, respond to outbreaks, and increase capacity as more age groups became eligible for vaccination. First located at the Healthy Planet Arena, the clinic temporarily moved to the Peterborough Public Health office downtown in May 2022 before finding a second home at Peterborough Square.

Alongside masking, hand hygiene, improving ventilation, physical distancing, and staying home when sick, staying up to date with vaccination continues to be the most important tool to reduce the severity of illness and the likelihood of death from COVID-19. Booster doses also provide an added layer of protection. For further information on how to reduce personal risk, residents are encouraged to use the COVID-19 and Respiratory Virus Index and Risk Guidance webpage.
