Get Your Flu Shot Early for the Best Protection over the Holidays

Flu Shot Clinic Offered in Millbrook on November 19
Flu season is here! To avoid becoming ill and spreading the influenza virus to others, Peterborough Public Health encourages residents to get their flu shot well before the holiday season.
“The beginning of the influenza season is the ideal time to be immunized. It can take up to two weeks for the flu shot to take full effect, and getting ahead of the holiday season is your best bet to protect yourself and your loved ones,” says Dr. Rosana Salvaterra, Medical Officer of Health. “Young children, pregnant women, and seniors are particularly at risk of complications from the flu, which makes it even more critical to get immunized well before holiday events begin.”
Flu shots are widely available at many local pharmacies, physician offices, and clinics. To find a location nearest you visit www.peterboroughpublichealth.ca
Peterborough Public Health is also offering a free flu shot clinic in Millbrook, on Monday, November 19, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The clinic is taking place at the Cavan-Monaghan Township Office Gymnasium on 988 County Road 10 in Millbrook. No appointment necessary, and walk-ins are welcome.
In addition to getting the flu shot people take the following precautions to reduce the spread of infection:
- Stay home if feeling unwell
- Wash your hands frequently
- Clean and sanitize commonly-used surfaces frequently
- Cough or sneeze into your sleeve or tissue and washing hands afterwards
Peterborough Public Health encourages you to take a photo after your flu shot and post to your social media accounts using the hashtag, #FightTheFlu and tagging @PtboHealth, where they will share through their own accounts.
