On August 10, 2022, the Board of Health approved our new strategic plan for 2022-2025. The strategic plan was developed using a health equity lens and input from the PPH Board of Health, PPH staff, external partners and stakeholders. The strategic plan prioritizes the well-being of staff, the needs of our community and stakeholders, and the role PPH plays in the healthcare system. Health equity will guide all of our work to achieve the goals outlined in the strategic plan.
Priority #1: An organization that fosters staff well-being and public health impact.
PPH plans to achieve this priority by fostering an organizational culture that attracts and retains the best team possible, investing in staff wellbeing and development, and creating effective teams.
Priority #2: To provide public health services to the entire PPH region, prioritizing health issues affecting under-served populations.
PPH plans to achieve this priority by ensuring people who use drugs (PWUD) have enhanced access to public health services, supporting under-served single parents and families in creating healthy environments for child development, and supporting people most vulnerable to the health impacts of climate change.
Priority #3: To position PPH as a leader in the health and public health system of the future.
PPH plans to achieve this priority by building strong relationships with primary care and health system partners, supporting partners in addressing inequities and barriers to services, practicing active allyship, and ensuring positive outcomes of public health system restructuring.
What is health equity?
Health equity is achieved when everyone can attain their full potential for health and well-being. Our work is guided by health equity when we work independently and with our partners to actively develop, evaluate, and update decision-making processes, policies, and structures to ensure social conditions do not prevent community members from accessing health services and programs. This includes collaborating with and providing additional support to groups whose health is disproportionately impacted by social conditions.
