Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program

The Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program (OSDCP) is designed to help meet the dental needs of low income seniors.?Locally, this program is delivered by Peterborough Public Health, in the Community Dental Health Clinic located at 185 King Street. 

Eligibility 

To be eligible, a person must:  

  • Be a resident of Ontario 
  • Be 65 years of age (or older) 
  • Have an annual net income* of: 
  • $25,000 or less for a single person 
  • $41,500 or less combined income for a couple 
  • Have no access to any other form of dental benefits (e.g., private insurance, Ontario Works, ODSP, Non-Insured Health Benefits) 

Eligibility is determined based on net income (line 236 on income tax form). Net income includes any income (e.g., employment, investments, pensions, government supports), less non-discretionary expenses (e.g. union fees, pension contributions).

How to Enroll

You can enroll in OSDCP either online or via mail. Before you begin, make sure you have: 

  • Your date of birth 
  • A valid Ontario address 
  • Your Social Insurance Number (SIN) or Temporary Taxation Number (TTN) 
  • Filed your taxes last year 

If you do not have a SIN/TTN or did not file taxes, complete the application through guarantor form and apply by mail.  

Applying by mail: download and print the application form (or pick one up from PPH), complete, then mail it to:

Eligible seniors will receive a dental card in the mail to confirm their enrolment in the program.  

Services Covered by OSDCP 

Dental services covered by OSDCP include: 

  • Examinations/assessments 
  • Preventive services (e.g., cleanings) 
  • Restorative services to repair broken teeth & cavities 
  • X-rays 
  • Oral surgery services to remove teeth or abnormal tissue 
  • Anaesthesia 
  • Endodontic services to treat infection & pain 
  • Periodontal services to treat gum conditions & diseases* 

*Other periodontal services (e.g., dentures) are covered in some circumstances, but cannot be provided at the CDHC currently 

Booking Appointments 

If you are not yet enrolled in OSDCP, you may still be able to access limited services. You will need to complete an eligibility form to confirm eligibility to receive emergency care under the program.  

If you are enrolled in OSDCP, call the CDHC at 705-748-2230 to make an appointment.

If you do not meet the eligibility criteria for OSDCP, you may still be eligible to receive limited funding for emergency treatment through the Dental Treatment Assistance Fund. To inquire if you are eligible, phone the CDHC at 705-748-2230. Local dental offices may also offer payment plans or reduced fees for those without insurance.
