The Board of Health announced today that its building located at 185 King Street is up for sale again and is encouraging interested bidders to submit an offer so Public Health can finalize plans to move to Jackson Square on 185 King Street.

“We had a conditional offer on our building, however we were unable to come to a final agreement with the purchaser, so the Board is now advising those who previously expressed interest in the property and new bidders that it is back on the market,” said Dr. Rosana Salvaterra, Medical Officer of Health.  “While we know there is considerable interest in this property, we continue to follow the prudent path and won’t confirm our purchase of the three floors of Jackson Square until the financing is in place.”

Dr. Salvaterra noted that Public Health’s plan to move downtown has made great progress with municipal approvals for one-time capital funding already confirmed by the City and County of Peterborough, and Hiawatha and Curve Lake First Nations.  “We are confident a new buyer will step forward based on the desirable location of this well-maintained building, making it a wonderful opportunity for a public service enterprise or medical clinic,” said Dr. Salvaterra.  The building is valued in the range of $4 million.

Dr. Salvaterra explained that the Board of Health is hopeful they will find a new purchaser soon, but if not, this may delay the move-in date as the financial arrangements require the proceeds from the Hospital Drive site.  Advertising has already begun in the Toronto area, and details about the property listing are available on www.peterboroughpublichealth.ca.
